Hokusai's Art and Traditional Music: A Journey Back to the Edo–Tokyo Era!
Are you planning a trip to Tokyo in late November 2026? If so, we have an unforgettable cultural experience for you!
Enjoy a captivating live performance featuring the masterworks of world-renowned ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock print) artist Katsushika Hokusai, projected in stunning visuals on a large screen, accompanied by a live performance of traditional Japanese kouta — a form of short, lyrical song rooted in the Edo period. It will feel as though you have been transported back in time to Edo-period Japan.
No need to worry about the language barrier — English subtitles will be provided for the kouta lyrics!
Enjoy a rich program featuring a variety of traditional performing arts, all in one evening:

-Visuals: High-definition projections of Hokusai's most celebrated works.
-Music: The delicate sounds of the shamisen (a three-stringed traditional lute), traditional singing, and hayashi ensemble music featuring flute and percussion.
-Storytelling: Entertaining rakugo — the traditional art of comedic storytelling performed by a solo narrator.

The venue is the Small Hall of the Edo-Tokyo Museum, conveniently located just a stone's throw from the Sumida Hokusai Museum and Ryogoku Kokugikan (the national sumo arena). This is the perfect centerpiece for a day of immersing yourself in authentic Japanese culture.
