2. Misako Gym: The Organizer of Diamond Glove

(Source:Misako Boxing Gym "Gym Introduction" / https://misakogym.jp/gym/)

Misako Gym is a boxing gym established in 1960, currently based in Nerima, Tokyo. Former professional boxer and champion Hitoshi Misako founded the gym on December 25, 1960, in Shihama, Koto. In April 1990, the office and training facility relocated to their current location in Kitamachi, Nerima, where a company-owned building was constructed. In September 2010, the training facility was renovated, and the gym building received the Good Design Award.

In February 2014, Takashi Misako — the son of the founding chairman, who had been serving as manager — became the second chairman. Today, Misako Promotion Co., Ltd. operates Misako Boxing Gym. In addition to professional boxers, the gym is also open to fitness trainees looking to stay active and to children.

Misako Gym has produced numerous world champions, including Koichi Wajima, Tadashi Mihara, and Tadashi Tomori. Among female boxers, Miyo Yoshida and Mizuki Hiruta have both claimed world titles. Takao Sakurai, who won a gold medal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, was also among the fighters affiliated with Misako Gym.

Fuji TV has broadcast a boxing program bearing the Diamond Glove name for many years. The Fuji TV program "Diamond Glove Ōgon Densetsu" (Diamond Glove Golden Legend) revisited title matches broadcast by the network in chronological order, going back to 1962. The program featured the world title bouts of Fighting Harada and Hiroyuki Ebihara from 1962 and 1963, as well as Koichi Wajima's fights from the 1970s and the bouts of Tadashi Mihara and Tadashi Tomori from 1979 and 1980.

In 2011 and 2012, Fuji TV broadcast bouts live from Korakuen Hall on a program called "LIVE! Diamond Glove." The 2012 edition aired every two months — in February, April, June, August, October, and December. One of the highlights of the 2011 broadcast was a heavyweight title match transmitted live from Korakuen Hall.

At the August 2019 event, a memorial ceremony was held to honor Hitoshi Misako, who had passed away on August 1 of that year, with Koichi Wajima also taking to the ring. More recently, Fuji TV's "FUJI BOXING" broadcast a Diamond Glove bout on March 14, 2026, with the program also made available for streaming on FOD and TVer after broadcast.
